O'Sullivan Chief

Michael O Sullivan

As the Chieftain of the O’Sullivan Clan I wish to welcome you to the official Web-site that celebrates the Beara to Leitrim March of 1602 and 1603. of O'Sullivan Beara. It began at Dunboy near Castletownbere and was led by Donal Cam..   The Clan is based in Castletownbere on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork – South Kerry the ancestral home of O’Sullivan Bere.   Over the last 20 years we have organised numerous events.

We have moved the O'Sullivan Clan Gathering to the last weekend 24th to 26th of July 2015. The reason being that the U.S.S "The Sullivans" ship could not come this year and we also hope to do a Guinness World Record with the highest amount of families with 5 brothers or 5 sisters in Dunboy over that week end. Many of those will be O'Sullivan Families travelling from all over the world.

The Gathering will be held in Dunboy by Castletownbere, the ancestral home of O'Sullivan Bere. The clan chieftain Michael O'Sullivan will welcome the visitors and the official opening of the Beara Breifne Way walking trail from Beara to Cavan will take place. The route is based on the historic March of O'Sullivan Bere in 1603. Naval ships will anchor off the headland. Puxley's Mansion will be partly opened on the day with food and drink. Food will be cooked on a barbecue in the traditional manner.
Visit to the other O Sullivan Castle in Ardea  in Tuosist and Carriganass in Keakill will be arrange  over the weekend

The clan gathering will be part of Beara's maritime commemorations which will be held over the weekend. Other events that are on will include:
History of the Huguenots Settlement in Bank Harbour in the 1700s
Military history of Bere Island and Berehaven Harbour.
In Garnish will be the history of the 511 historical sites on the peninsula and the folklore of the Beara coastline, shipwrecks and heroic rescues. In the afternoon Allihies Mines Co-op will host an event of the history of Allihies Mines and links with Cornwall and Butte.
These events are being organised by the following committees:
Allihies Mines Co-op, Lehanmore Co-op, Beara Historical Society, Bere Island Projects, Beara Tourism and O'Sullivan Clan.
It is hoped to have six naval ships from different countries will be in Berehaven over the weekend. A special invitation will be sent to the USS The Sullivans navy ship of the USA which has historic links with the area. Numerous yachts, pleasure crafts and fishing boats will be invited to participate.
We're hoping many of our immigrants will return home for the weekend as this truly a Beara festival
